Flights to Tanzania
Visit Tanzania and you will be in the largest country in east Africa. The terrain of Tanzania is extremely varied. You will find Africa’s tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, and low lying coastal islands. These differences make Tanzania a wonderful spot for a holiday.
The central plateau covers the largest portion of the country. The capital, Dodoma, is located here although most of the country is run from Dar es Salaam, the former capital on the Eastern coast. Mountain ranges are also located on the east side of the country including Mount Kilimanjaro. The Serengeti is located in the northwest along with the Great Lakes of Africa. One lake, Lake Tanganyika, is the lowest point in Africa.
Many tourists flock to Zanzibar, a coastal island in the Indian Ocean. It is possible to swim with dolphins on the island and scuba is popular. Mt. Kilimanjaro is another tourist highlight. Guides are available for hire so you and your group can climb the mountain. Safari guests head for the Serengeti. Safaris range from basic to very luxurious depending on much you want to spend. Guides can be hired for around $35 a day. You will want to tour the desert in an open air bus so you won’t miss the herds of wildebeest, zebra, and buffalo.
The resorts of the eastern coast and Zanzibar close during the rainy season. The best times to visit Tanzania are in January and February and from June to August. The first months of the year are when you will see the animals of the Serengeti migrating, but it is the summer so it is very hot.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are plentiful in Tanzania. While you are there try some local dishes. Mtori is a beef and banana dish and Mchicha is a local stew. The local soda is Stoney Tangawizi, a ginger drink. For a treat look for Konyagi, a gin produced in the country.
There are two major airports. In Dar you will arrive at the Julius Nyerere International Airport. In Kilimanjaro you will use the Kilimanjaro International. You are required to have a visa for entry and this is best arranged before you enter the country.
